  • Background:  Old Pogue "Master's Select" is made by one of Kentucky's oldest whiskey families and is an excellent, upscale Bourbon for any Bourbon lover.   Old Pogue Bourbon is made from the original, time-honored recipe, dating back to 1869 when it as made at the H.E. Pogue Distillery (RD #22) in Maysville, KY (Mason County), then known as "Limestone Landing".   Likely one of the first Bourbons made in the region,  the location of the first Pogue distillery was established at a junction known as "old buffalo trace" which was the overland trail to the south and west in what was then part of Bourbon County, Virginia.   Settlers from Pennsylvania established the distillery along the banks of the Ohio River likely due to the access to shipping ports and river boat transportation.  The distillery closed during Prohibition, but since has been reopened in Bardstown, KY by the H.E. Pogue IV and Jack Pogue (Centre College) in 1993 - the fourth and fifth generation of Pogue family, with the same family owned recipe.
