  • Background:  Widely considered "Kentucky's First Distiller",   Evan Williams, settled in Virginia and moved to what would become Kentucky in about 1780. Welsh by heritage, he undoubtedly brought with him his farming and distilling secrets.  Like most frontiersmen, he grew corn, but getting it to market over narrow trails and steep mountains was a challenging task. As many future distillery did, they learned other uses for their grains, such as using them in their whiskies.  Williams set up his small distillery on the Ohio River at the foot of what is now Fifth Street in Louisville.   It is said that Evan William was very involved in the local community and even supervised the building of the Jefferson County Jail in 1802.  Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage Bourbon is one of the few single barrel bourbons ages longer than 10 years, which gives it it's distinct taste and wide appeal.  This Bourbon was the first Bourbon Whiskey to receive the Whiskey of the Year award in 1990, it's first among many accolades.
